It Only Takes One
1 Chronicles 11:22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day. 23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.
Mighty Men
There is not mighty men mentioned before David. However, after he kills Goliath, now there is a whole slew of mighty men among the Israelites. It goes to show that it all starts with a man that believes God and is willing to act on it. A modern day example of this would be Hudson Taylor. He started as a single man that believed God. He then went to China and saw God work. Fifty years down the road, I can read story after story of how Chinese converts believed God and saw Him do big things. The missionaries that Hudson trained saw hundreds come to Christ because they had seen an example of what God could do. They were seeing God work but I must admit that a least a little part of that was seeing an example and maybe saying in their hearts, “If God will answer Hudson Taylor’s prayers, I know he can answer mine. God is challenging me today to be that man. I will be mocked and ridiculed, but I must go on. I need to stand up and take on a giant.
