It is Worth it to Serve Jesus!
Many Christians have a desire to serve God. Many want to see God use them to help others. They want to share the Gospel and help others know God. However, while attempting to serve God, whether it be full time in the ministry or helping with VBS, people are hurt. The person you tried to help and disciple for a year leaves the church even though you did everything possible to support and encourage her. Other church members don’t like the way you run a ministry. The people at your church don’t seem to appreciate your sermons. People don’t want to get involved in a project or ministry that you are leading to bring the Gospel to others. Many times it is easy to feel that our time serving Jesus is wasted. However, I would like to share with you why it is worth it to serve Jesus!
One, because of what Jesus has done for us
It is easy to be offended or hurt by the comments and actions of others. We often may feel that we are not appreciated or that our service is taken for granted. But if we remember the sacrifice of Jesus, then there is no sacrifice too great to make for him. Jesus went to the cross and paid the price of sin once for all! He was beaten, mocked, and crucified to save us. He took our sin and gave us his righteousness. He bore the wrath of God that we deserved! If we think back to the cross, then no sacrifice will seem too great to make for our Savior.
Two, because we are living for eternity
It is worth it to live for Jesus because there is life after death. We only have a short time here on earth, but there is an eternity after death. The Bible says that our souls will live forever. We should remember that our service is making an eternal impact. If we are sharing the Gospel with others, then we are helping them for all of eternity. We can make an eternal impact on their lives. We might have many people that do not want to listen to the Gospel. But all of our efforts are worth it if one soul is saved for eternity.
Three, because we are servants of God
The Bible says in 2 Cor 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again. We can see here that our lives are not our own. We have been bought with a price, and we should no longer live for ourselves. We are servants of God and should live for him no matter how we are treated our what our circumstances are. We should not be living for our desires and wants. We should be living for Jesus because we are his servants!
It is very easy to get discouraged and ask ourselves, “Why am I continuing to serve in this ministry at our church, or is it even worth sharing the Gospel with others?” Or to think, “I should probably just give up on the ministry because I do not see results as I want.” But I would like to encourage you and say that it is always worth it to serve Jesus!
