But Naaman was wroth, and went away, and said, Behold, I thought, He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of the LORD his God, and strike his hand over the place, and recover the leper. 2 Kings 5:11

Naaman was a great general in the Syrian army but he was a leper. His little servant girl had told him about a prophet in Isreal that would be able to heal him. He goes to Isreal to be healed but when he is on his way to Elisha’s house he is met by a messager that tells him to go wash in the Jordan 7 times. Then we read this verse and see that he gets angry because this was not the way he wanted to get healed. He is about to head back but his servants convince him to try and so he goes and after washing is healed. The main thing that I see from this verse is that even though he was asking this prophet to heal him he still wanted it to look a certain way. I think the same is true in my life. Often times I ask God to do something but I want it to look a certain way. I think that my prayer is answered only if it looks like I want it to. I wonder if I sometimes miss the answer that God has given when I have this attitude. It is far to easy to think in my terms and not on God’s terms.
