Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again. 1 Kings 18:37
Elijah prayer is different than most of mine. He is begging God to answer but notice the reasons he gives. He ask God to answer his prayer so that the people would know that there is a God and that he rules in heaven. That is so different than most of my prayers and the prayer request that I hear. Usually they are all about us. I am sick God so please heal me. Help me to get a job. Help me to preach well. Help me to get good grades on this test. Help my friend’s broken arm to get better! If you ever listen to the prayer request, it becomes very clear that we are mainly focused on ourselves. I need to change this! I don’t need to think about my own glory and needs, but instead need to ask God things for the right reasons. I need to ask God for things that are things that He wants and not just what I want.
