Are you a living Christian?
Rev. 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Here is a challenging verse. Jesus is writing to the church at Sardis to tell them that have a name or reputation that they are a strong, vibrant church, but Jesus knows that in reality they are dead. He says, “There are only a few of you that are not defiled.” I know so many people that have this reputation sydrome. Everyone wants to be called a stong, mature Christian even if they are not. They want to everyone around them to look at them and say, “He really lives for Jesus!” This is a great desire to have. We should want to be examples to others. However, many times people are more focused on having a name instead of truly serving Jesus. I have this problem big time. As a Bible college student, I have a desire to do ministry but often times I don’t do ministry to spread the Gospel and glorify God but to have a name that I am alive. I would rather be spoken of as the guy that is always busy with ministry than the guy who is actually producing God given fruit. I want the name of a strong Christian instead of the actual character itself. To grow to maturity in my life it is going to something that takes time and will be tough on me and my pride. I oftentimes try to bypass the learning to get a name. This is dangerous! I am reminded today to get off my pride and start working and learing for Jesus.
