The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD. Hosea 1:2

God tells Hosea to go live out what the Israelites are doing to Him. He tells Hosea to go take an unfaithful wife and marry her. Hosea is supposed to love her even though he knows that she will leave him. Hosea knows that his wife will cheat on him. Hosea knows that she doesn’t really love him but Hosea is going to love her anyway. What he is doing is a picture of the relationship that God has with Israel. I just think how hard this would be in my life if I actually had to do this. It would be humiliating, infuriating, and painful. Now, think about the God of Heaven being treated in that way. He is perfect without faults and yet he still loves. I think the same is true for us today. I am not part of the nation of Israel, but how many times have I turned my back on God? How many times have I told God I am going to do what I want and He can just take a hike. In spite of all of that, God still loves me and wants me to trust in Christ. God doesn’t ask me to become perfect before he will love me. I don’t have to measure up to a standard. Jesus died for all and wants all to be saved.
